LO: to give simple directions in French

Year 5 practised saying the alphabet in French. They then sang their song.They also learnt some simple directions: turn left, turn right, continue straight on. They then drew a variety of places onto a map. After which they decided on their destination. They then wrote directions to their chosen destination.

LO: to write sentences using time connectives

The children revised the alphabet in French and sang their song. They practised using Il y a with different place names and translated a paragraph. They then followed directions on a map. After that they had a go at using a writing frame to help them write simple directions to a place of their choice.

LO: to use Il y a

Year 5 practised their song :Quand Je vais a l’ecole and the French alphabet. They also used the multiples of 10 and alphabet knowledge to play a version of battleships. They then used the sentence structure: Il y a to say and write what place was found in the grid.

LO: to use Je passe devant with the names of different place names

Year 5 revised the French Alphabet and learnt On the way to school vocabulary. They practised their song and using the sentence structure, Je passé devant. They then labelled their vocabulary and used this in sentences.

Lesson 5: mercredi 12 janvier 2022

LO: to say what someone eats and drinks for breakfast

Year 5 practised the food vocabulary they have learnt in this topic. They identified words that they already knew and translated them. They each had a simple text which they read to themselves. Their partner asked them what they eat and drink for breakfast. They wrote down their translations.

Lo: to learn the alphabet in French

Year 5 started their new topic: En route pour l’école , On the way to school. They revised numbers to 26 as well as multiples of 10 to 60. They then learnt the Alphabet in French , saying it in a military style so as not to confuse them with the same tune as we use in English. They then had a go at code breaking using numbers to 26 and the alpahabet.

LO: to find out about Christmas traditions in France

Year 5 were introduced to French Christmas traditions. They found out about how the French celebrate Christmas, including some French vocabulary. They were especially interested in the similarities and differences between the Christmas dinner which include eating seafood, salad,cheese,crudités and petit fours. They then chose a variety of activities to complete including word searches, crosswords which were completed using a word mat.

LO: I can listen with understanding and answer questions

Year 5 revised the breakfast and lunch vocabulary they have learnt so far. They also practised using the verbs, manger and boire. They listened to and watched the video of a person ordering breakfast . They then translated a few sentences and sang a song, le petit dejeuner. They then translated some sentences from English to French. They looked for key words that they had learnt and found the sentence to write down.

Lesson 3: jeudi 24 novembre 2021

LO: to find out and say what the French eat for breakfast

Year 5 recapped on the lunch vocabulary from the prevoius week’s work. They were then introduced to French breakfast customs and were surprised to find out that the French don’t eat croissants for breakfast every morning! They learnt new vocabulary and used the words to say what they eat or drink for breakfast. They then matched new vocabualry to pictures.

Lesson 2: jeudi 18 novembre 2021

LO: to conjugate the verb manger and say what is in my lunchbox

Year 5 revised the lunch vocabulary they learnt last week. They then conjugated the verb manger, using the verb jouer, which they learnt recently. They then drew and labelled items that they may have in their lunch box. They then asked their partner what items were in their lunch boxes, listening very carefully to their words. They then drew what they heard in the other lunch box.
