Lesson 1: jeudi 11 novembre 2021

LO: to use the verb manger and boire

Year 5 started their new topic: Bon appetit. They listened to their new song of the half term: le petit dejeuner. They found out about school dinners in France and noticed how different they are to their experience of school dinners. They learnt some new vocabulary, matching words and pictures. They then used the new vocabulary with the verbs manger and bourse to say and write sentences.

Lesson 7 : jeudi 4 novembre 2021

LO: to read with understanding and answer questions

Year 5 revised the beams of the different musical instruments. They then mimed playing an instrument with the class guessing the instrument being played. They then each chose 3 children in the class and asked them: Tu joue d’un instrument? They then replied with oui, Je joue ….. or non, Je ne joue pas…. They filled in this information into a grid, which they then used to write some simple sentences. They then read a few sentences, writing down who played an instrument which was a guided activity. They then answered a true or false activity independently.

LO: I can use ne….pas with the verb jouer

LO: I can use ne______ pas with the verb jouer

Year 5 practised conjugating jouer again. They then learnt how to use ne _____pas . They then were given ne and pas cards to position on either side of the conjugated verb. They then practised saying sentences using the negative. They then changed sentences from the negative to the positive and vice versa using jouer and a musical instrument.

European Day of Languages

LO: I can celebrate the European Day of languages by finding out about Germany and saying some words in German

Year 5 found out about Germany and learnt to say some words in German. They identified Germany on a map of Europe, learnt to say some greetings in German (guided a very helpful pupil), found out about a few of the main cities inGermany and learnt how to count to 10 in German. They the. They also watched a short video about the Berlin Wall.They the used the information they found out to create a fact file about Germany.

Lesson 5: jeudi 30 septembre 2021

LO: I can conjugate the verb jouer

Year 5 were introduced to the verb jouer and its conjugation. They were given cards to match the different pronouns with the endings. They then sang a song about Jouer and it’s conjugation. They then wrote the conjugated verb out and then applied that to writing sentences. They also sang Je suis le musicien.

Lesson 4: jeudi 23 septembre 2021

LO: I can use Je joue du et Je joue de la

Year 5 practised using Je joue du and Je joue de la with the different musical instruments that they learnt last week. They learnt when to use du and when to use de la. They also sang their song of the half term: Je suis le musicien, sung to the tune: I am a music man.

Lesson 3: Musical instruments

Year 5 revised last weeks work by asking their partner if the liked music in French, and they then replied using J’aime or Je n’aime pas and mais je prefere …. They learnt the names of a variety of musical instruments, practising their pronunciation. They discovered that most of the names of instruments are very similar to English.They finished the lesson off with a matching activity and using French /English dictionary to find out the meanings of words they couldn’t identify.

Lesson 2: Expressing an opinion

Year 5 revised the names of different music genres . They learnt how to express an opinion about a genre using :J’aime and Je n’aime pas…. They had a go at writing some sentences and extending them using mais(but) and Je prefere. They also started learning, I am a music man in French.

Lesson 1: I am a musician

Year 5 started their first topic called: Je suis le musicien. They listened to a variety of music clips, learning how to say that genre of music in French.

Describing the seasons

Continuing from last weeks work, year 5 added to their word bank for each season. They were introduced to different adjectives , including opposites. They then added them to their word banks. They then used a writing frame to write their own paragraph. After that ,their challenge was to write another paragraph using opposites and then one of their choice.
